Battle Geekz!

My boyfriend and our friend, Frank, started a podcast a little over a month ago called Battle Geekz. It is a new take on a review show where they give each other nerdy "assignments", whether it be a comic book, movie, tv show, etc....then they meet each week to discuss and "battle" on their various opinions. It's quite fun to listen to! They asked me to design a logo for them, so I thought it would be fun to make them look like they are about to partake in a sci fi meets fantasy duel...

After I completed the logo, I wanted to take it one step further and design them a Facebook cover page. They use a lot of sound effects from Street Fighter, so I thought I would stick with the theme and drop them in a classic Street Fighter battle scenario.

You can download Battle Geekz on Itunes or visit their website to find other ways to listen and download!

Invitation for Northridge Restoration

My boyfriend's mom works for a company called North Ridge Restoration, and they approached me about creating an invitation for a customer appreciation event they are having in October. They wanted something casual and fall-themed since it is taking place at a BBQ themed restaurant. They were quite pleased with the final result!

Panda Pandemonium!

At work we made teams to help people get involved with our yearly activities and to help people get to know eachother a little better. I am a team captain, and we had to come up with a team name that included and animal and another alliterative term. Behold....PANDA PANDEMONIUM! Definitely rushed a little on this one, but I think it turned out cute.

My First Letterpressing Experience

When my friend Ashley approached me recently about participating in a letterpressing event with AIGA Atlanta, at Atlanta Printmaker's Studio, I said, "Sign me up!" Not only have I always wanted to try my hand at letterpressing, I have always wanted to check out APS. What a great way to do both!

We had an awesome time at the event, and it was great to see the excitement on everyone's faces after they printed their first card. I printed my main batch of cards on a Chandler & Price printer from 1899 that you had to pedal with your foot! In this age of digital printing, it was really cool to use such an old tool to print!

Below is a picture of my artwork and some of the finished cards! I really hope I have the opportunity to letterpress again in the near future!

Some recent commissions

Hello all! I have done a few more commissions lately and thought I would share! First is a portrait for my friend Lacey. Her friends that got married are big Alabama fans, so she wanted a Roll Tide theme portrait to give them as a wedding gift.

The second is for a friend from high school's wedding program. They are getting married in July in Florida, so they thought it would be great to have a fan as their wedding program. I will post pics of the completed fan after the big day!

Matt the Viking

One day, Matt, my boyfriend, sees me looking at character designs online and says, "why don't you draw me a bad ass character for me to use as my avatar?"

Challenge accepted.

The writing says "Matt" in dwarven runes (according to Matt). Whatta nerd! Trying out a more painterly style with this one...I like it, but I definitely think I could use more practice!

Trilobite

My dad is a huge rockhound and a big fan of fossils. My favorites have always been trilobites...I like how they look like bigger prehistoric versions of pill bugs!

For Christmas this year, I decided to draw my dad a picture of a trilobite to hang in his new home office.

Family Portraits

In the past few months, I have created a couple of "family portraits" for family and friends as gifts and I thought that I would share them with you all!

It all started with the portrait of my immediate family that I did for my mom for her birthday:

After that, I did a couple of couples (see what I did there?!). The first is my cousin and his wife (I gave it to them as a wedding gift), the second I did for a friend's birthday of her and her fiancee.

After my cousin, Amanda, saw the portrait of my family and of our cousin and his wife, she commissioned me to do one of her whole family for Christmas! I was a bit worried about this one because of the amount of people, but I think it turned out splendidly!

I am still considering doing these on a commissions basis, but it makes it a lot easier when you know the people you are drawing! However, if you are interested, contact me and I can let you know prices and such.

Overdue Christmas Card!

Why am I posting a Christmas Card in February? Well, I just realized that I totally forgot to post it on my blog! I got lots of compliments on it...had it printed by moo.com and they looked BEAUTIFUL! Highly recommend them for your printing needs!

I also did a poster for our work christmas party, which I thought turned out pretty cute, so might as well post that here too while we are on the topic!

more of "The Alchemist's Heart"

Here are a few more selected drawings from "The Alchemist's Heart." Hopefully I will have some images of the final book to post shortly! There are a lot more images than this, but these are my few favorites.  I didn't get to spend as much time on these as I would like to, but I think they still turned out pretty nicely considering! Thank you, art school, for forcing me to draw quickly!

busy busy busy!

Wow, I feel like this week my hand might as well be glued to a pen! (or wacom!) Besides sketching a lot at work, I have been illustrating a story written by Andy for his friend who is binding it all together for a bookbinding class project! Here are a few of the drawings so far... eventually I will hopefully have pictures of it all put together as a book! I like how this is turning out, its been a while since I have drawn in anything other than sketchbook pro!

Alphabeastiary-Bush Dai-Dai

My submission for the letter B on Alphabeastiary: the Bush Dai-Dai.

This obscure monster hails from the jungles of Guyana in South America and has its roots in Caribbean folklore.

The Bush Dai Dai will take the form of a beautiful woman and appear to travelers or in miner’s camps, and seduce a weak man she might take a fancy to. After having her way with the unfortunate she will change into a wild animal and eat her victim as they sleep. She is a mixture of the succubus myth with a dash of werewolf thrown in for good measure.

Alphabeastiary: Angha

Alphabeastiary is a bi-weekly art challenge blog that I will be contributing to! Each week, a new mythical creature is posted and we are to submit our original takes on the creature. Eventually, we will make it through the whole alphabet! The first creature is an Angha, which has the head of a dog, feet of a lion, and peacock tail and wings.

Here is my submission! Check out the rest of the blog for other cool entries!
